Where do Katydids live?
There are hundreds of katydids species, and they are found all over the world. The greatest amount of katydid species live in tropical areas. Katydids spend most of their lives on the plants since that is what they eat, so they need habitats with lots of plants. Katydids inhabit all terrestrial habitats, from underground burrows, and caves, to the tops of trees in rainforests and high mountain peaks. Others prefer wetlands, with some species living on the shores of ponds, streams, lakes, and rivers. A few species live in water. Many species live in meadows and deserts. Still other species are very particular about where they live.
Most farmers and gardeners do not like Katydids because they have a reputation of eatings crops from farms and gardens. Female katydids mate in the summer, they lay eggs in sticks or in the ground. Katydids use sound to communicate across distances.
